Production levels have not shown any large increases over the past three years, which could be attributed to a range of factors the main challenge being sea lice control.
Another major challenge are the losses due to mortality and fish escapes. Approximately 20% of the stock will either die or disappear in the sea water phase of production. This is a substantial loss both from an economic and a fish welfare perspective, which may be unsustainable over the long term as production increases.
